Board Certified in Plastic Surgery

Beware of surgeons who aren’t Board Certified in Plastic Surgeries because they can say just about anything to lure you into seeing them for your cosmetic procedure. They could advertise cosmetic surgery as if they had a Board Certification in General Surgery or Dermatology or OB/Gyn, for example. They might claim to be board certified in several different fields. If you’re not certain whether they are the right surgeon for your procedure, take a closer look.

The American Board of Plastic Surgeons is the organization that certifies doctors and medical professionals in the fields of plastic surgery. They issue a credential, which is usually on the first page of the medical library of your local hospital, and are available through their website, as well as in the classifieds in many newspapers.

If a doctor’s credentials don’t say anything about his or her plastic surgery skills, then it’s a good idea to proceed with caution. Many doctors do not list their credentials on their websites, so if the doctor has a credential, he or she will have to provide it to you. Some doctors don’t provide their credentials at all, and there are some exceptions to this rule.

Most Board Certified plastic surgery specialists come from a very reputable hospital, so their credentials are probably valid. They will also likely have experience working in the area of plastic surgery, although this can vary depending on the practice.

You should also ask how many years the Board Certification has been in effect. Most doctors have been Board Certified in plastic surgery since at least five years before. There is no minimum amount of time a practitioner must work in order to achieve this certification, although many surgeons prefer to be Board Certified in at least seven to ten years.

A doctor who is not Board Certified may not have as much to offer you for your needs, because the practice of plastic surgery is so specialized. that they may not be able to offer you as much as an experienced surgeon. On the other hand, it may be worth your while to take a chance with a new physician who may have little to offer, because he or she has only worked in the area of cosmetic surgery for a very short period of time.

To be sure, ask how many procedures the doctor offers, and ask about his or her past experiences with plastic surgery. You can ask to see before and after photos and any of the procedures they offer, as well as how the procedure was performed. You may want to ask how many types of cosmetic surgeries are offered as well, to ensure you get the best possible outcome with the procedures. If the doctor can’t answer any of these questions, it’s probably a good idea to move on to someone who can.

Don’t hesitate to contact the physician’s credentials if you are dissatisfied with any aspects of his or her practice. You may find yourself talking to several different doctors if one isn’t the right fit for you. It’s also helpful to check the practice out with other patients who were satisfied with the experience. Asking about the experience of other patients may help you find a reputable plastic surgeon.

After you have found the right physician for plastic surgery, talk to him or her about some of the risks and benefits of the procedure. This can be done by email or in person. Make sure you ask each question before deciding to go ahead with the procedure.

When you’ve decided you’re ready to have plastic surgery, ask the surgeon to set up an appointment for you. Many of the plastic surgeons now offer online consultations. This means you can schedule your consultation online and pay online.

In most cases, you can book an appointment online at any of the clinics listed on the doctor’s website. Just fill out the information required to get started, and the procedure will take place at that time. In some cases you’ll have to wait a day or two for the procedure to take place, but this depends on the doctor and his or her schedule.
